the end...

January slid to a cool end, only the calender noticed... and flipped.

no rhyme...

fishing for a thread I caught an empty vessel, nothing rhymed.

grey days...

January's shadowy grey presence stalks the days, waiting to spring.

rain...

Pattering hissing rain, soothes, drowns and washes joy parched days away.

You Lured me in......(a fishy tale)

You lured me in with tempting bait
And promise of fulfilment.
I took a bite, it tasted sweet
but oh there was a sting.
Too late, I'm hooked, tried to resist
but the pulling just got harder.
You pulled and pushed and gave and took
I then became ensnared.
You drew me close and looked in awe
my shining scales and beautiful curves.
I was calm in your gentle touch,
lay there in warmth without a struggle.
I loved that feel but knew it wrong,
I struggled but the barb was tight.
But then you found a flaw in me
a missing scale I was not right.
I did not suit your needs this time
I did not fit your plans.
You cast me back in the deep dark pool
I lay still in shock as the cold hit.
But there's still a flicker in my tail
It's faint and barely there.
I'll lie here at the bottom now,
'till my strength returns to surface.

a moment...

the moon rose the sun set and I was caught blissfully between the two.

how to haiku? I wish I knew.

haiku an art strange to me, fills my heart and mind but eludes my fingers

Slipping

Slipping into deep dark pools, water wraps, surrounds until time to surface and bubble...

Something special to share.

I missed posting yesterday which I feel bad about, but today I wanted to share something that really moved me and made me realise that just simple ideas can be life changing and make meaning of the world.

no time

No time for words
No time to think
No time to live
No time
... too late

make them laugh...

echoing your nagging whines,
you found it extremely annoying...
stopped, laughed, happy again!

Tired? Sing!

Too tired to think
Too tired to write
I sung 'till I was feeling bright.

an honour...

An honour is bestowed
My knowledge has been sought
I hope that I am worthy

tough love...

cold bright beautiful
long hard steep
walking days heal me

emotional path...

emotion carries a poem
taking it unwittingly
to logical conclusion

hope...

stumbling one grey day to next,
small sparks of hope keep me,
from falling in the dark.

a seed of an idea.

Each seed can grow a bush, each bush some roses, each rose more seeds, each seed a bush...
Ideas can do the same...

The best medicine.

The day started unwanted.
With laughter just what was needed.
Now gone happy echoes remain.

lost...

Where did we lose the reason of seasons
When did we lose the time to stare
We cannot hear the earth's sad songs
Whilst driving ourselves to bleak despair

a ripple...

I cast a stone,
ripples spread and cast a stone,
ripples spread,
I cast a stone...

A spot of blue.

The day started out with me sitting at the bottom of the dark pond unable to lift myself out, then a tiny spot of blue appeared, the sun made an appearance after being missing for days, a friend and my daughter called and now the day is much brighter. Now sitting on edge of pond ready to start the day.

Beginnings and endings...

Thoughts from the shower... I really need a thought reading app (waterproof too), I never have these thoughts at convenient times, my mind goes off on a ramble and by the time I have pen or keyboard in hand the thoughts have usually vanished. So why did I decide to start a blog today 1/1/11?

This is no different to any other day in the grander scheme of things, it's just another day in the line of days that started the day I was born and will continue with ever increasing haste until I die. But within and without that long line (is it linear?) of a beginning and end there are other beginnings and endings; lifetimes, seasons, years, months, sunsets and sunrises, hours and seconds. These occur without our doing but we have we've divided and managed some of them for our own convenience along the way, time is one, we even try to mess with it and put it backwards and forwards to suit. So today is really just symbolic and comes from the calendar that I was brought up with. It doesn't even mark the end and beginning of a season, much more sensible to have it at the start of Spring if you ask me... but you didn't and nor did they.

We are ruled by beginnings and endings... So when did my life begin? The day I was born? When I was conceived? Before that... an egg, a cell, a thought? Before that even, are we all connected somewhere, somehow at the beginning, the big bang, stardust... before that? Am I connected to the chickens? I must be if we all came from one point, unless... alien chickens? Let's not go there (you can if you want to).

I won't (can't) delve into the complexities of it all, I'm no expert. That's for another blog somewhere out there, one belonging to a scientist or philosopher not me, I'm just someone trying to make sense of it all and usually failing. So... 1st January is where I start, a symbolic starting point, as good as any other. Why am I even recording these thoughts? I could keep them in my head, I certainly don't expect people to read this unless they want to. Perhaps it's just another way for me to make sense of ideas before they vanish.

So there it is out of my head and on paper and screen.

Happy New Year!

Harpenden Common

Our local common on the Woodland Trust website and a photo I took the day after the snow came.

Walks with my camera.

I started a photography class last year and will be carrying on in a few weeks. I also bought a new camera, this blog will hopefully encourage me to use the camera more and post some pics. I need to feel more comfortable with the camera and try to understand it's mysterious workings, there seems to be a lot of maths involved. But auto mode is NOT allowed!

New year, new blog, will it last?...

... probably not.
I'm going to try and keep this as a space for a diary, ramblings, ideas and see how the year progresses.
